Grief - Amah (Grandmother).

I was reading a story by Francine Prose that had a haunting line that stuck with me. It was a comment by an American observing how certain cultures seemed to be obsessed by death, with holidays dedicated to them. The response back from the person whose culture was being observed was that Americans today lived in a country where nobody dies. That they were so removed from death in their lives. And that for some other cultures, death was such a frequent occurrence that it became part of their celebrations, their rituals. I've been fortunate enough that even close to forty years old, I've only ever experienced one death of a family member close to my life.
